Description:
This unit is the second in a two part sequence of units which aims to give students a thorough knowledge of the fundamental laws and principles of classical physics and an introduction to modern physics. This second unit covers Electricity and Magnetism (electric field, Gauss's law, electric potential, capacitance and dielectrics, current and resistance, DC circuits, magnetic field, Ampere's law, induction, electromagnetic oscillations, AC currents and circuits,
electromagnetic waves) and Optics (light, geometrical optics, reflection and refraction, physical optics, optics, reflection and refraction, physical optics, diffraction and interference, lasers, holography). As in M150 Physics for Science and Engineering I there is an emphasis on problem solving and experimental investigations.
Assessment is by tests, assignments, laboratory, final examination.
Prerequisite(s): M150 Physics for Science and Engineering I or equivalent.

Administrative information:
This is a 1 semester unit (15 weeks). Between 13-19 hours of study per week is required. It is a 3 point unit.
